Dear Member,

At Bothwell Castle Golf Club, the health and safety of our members and our employees is a high priority. We are very much aware of the growing concerns around Coronavirus (Covid-19) and are just writing this note to update everyone.

While the Government has provided public information and guidelines that we are closely following, we would again like to remind our members that regular, thorough handwashing with soap and hot water is still the most effective way of controlling the spread of this virus.

Our suppliers have assured me that the cleaning and hand wash products we use in the golf club are suitable to help us prevent the spread of this virus.

All staff, in particular, our housekeeping staff have been instructed accordingly, i.e. paying particular attention to door handles and guards while carrying out their daily duties.

We are advising that with immediate effect shaking hands should be avoided. We are also advised that upon finishing your game of golf, the first thing you should do when entering the clubhouse is wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and hot water.
In summary, we would ask:

* Please do not come to the Club if you are unwell

* Keep your hands clean, wash regularly and thoroughly, for at least 20 seconds with soap and hot water

* Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch all coughs and sneezes and then bin the tissue – then wash your hands with soap and hot water or use a sanitiser. If tissues are not available, you should sneeze or cough into the crook of your arm.

We ask anyone who is concerned that they may have encountered the virus to follow the Government advice and self-isolate in the first instance.

The latest Government advice is available here:

Dr Jenny Harries (Deputy Chief Medical Officer) has stated “that outside activities are one of the safest places to be” - we should continue to enjoy our golf (weather permitting!)

Warm regards

Brendan McDermott
